Homework is an integral part of fifth grade responsibilities. Homework is assigned every day and is expected back, carefully completed, the very next school day. Most nights, your child will have homework from more than one academic subject.
Homework allows your child to practice and strengthen academic skills. Homework also helps a child develop emotional and behavior skills needed in the adult world. The value of homework involves: responsibility, independence, perseverance, time management, initiative, slef-reliance, and resourcefulness.

Accelerated Reader or AR for short, is a program developed to test student comprehension on the books they read. Each student has a reading level (as determined by the STAR reading test given several times a year). They read books in this level. Each book they read has a point value and a corresponding quiz on the computer. Once they finish a book, they take a quiz and accumulate more points. Each student has a points goal for the term that they are working towards.
It is imperative that each child reads for an hour a day. Everyone reads for approximately a half hour in school, the other half hour of reading is homework. The best way to improve reading is to read! Please make sure your child is reading at home!
